SCHOOL BOARD MEETING

JUNE 11, 2007 

 

The Guymon Board of Education held a regular meeting on Monday, June 11, 2007 at the J. H. Science Annex.

 

President Dahl called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.   Scot Dahl, Mitzi Dain and Elvia Hernandez were present.  Superintendent Doug Melton, Assistant Superintendent Mike Parkhurst, Director of Curriculum Kenny Mason, Sue Darnell, Minutes Clerk, principals and guests were also present.

 

Dahl requested approval of the minutes of the Board Meeting of May 14, 2007.   Dain made a motion to approve the minutes, seconded by Hernandez.  Motion carried 3-0.

 

Hernandez moved to approve the Consent Agenda which included approval for an Out of State Trip for Alma Folklorica, Las Cruces, NM, seconded by Dain.  Motion carried 3-0.

 

Melton presented the encumbrances and discussion followed.  Hernandez made a motion to approve the encumbrances as listed, Dain seconded.  Motion carried 3-0. 

 

Melton presented the Superintendent’s Financial Reports.  Dain moved to approve the Financial Reports as presented, seconded by Hernandez.  Motion carried 3-0.

 

Melton reported that Read Barby was going to CLEET training and he was working with the City about the ordinances that are needed.  The walk through on Pioneer is 6/15 at 1:30 and will need a special board meeting to accept.  The roof sealant at the high school is not working and the architect declared it a nuisance and Guymon will not pay the bill (sealant company went bankrupt).  They recommend that the whole roof be removed and redone.  They have started moving classrooms.  OSSBA meeting is July 24, 25, 26.  Parkhurst reported that Kindergarten enrollment is over expectations and may need to add another class.  ADM is 2304 and is down 32 students from last year at a cost of $2860 per student.  HS graduated 93 students.  Because of the changing of software program, Melton did not have the budget report for FY08 and will have it next month.  DHS has still not hired a school based social worker.   Dain made a motion to approve the General Information of the Superintendent’s Reports, seconded by Hernandez.   Motion carried 3-0.

 

Melton stated that the Legislation approved a raise for Certified staff. Hernandez moved to approve the Teacher Salary Schedule 2007-2008, seconded by Dain.  Motion carried 3-0.

 

Dain moved to approve the Precision Testing Asbestos O & M Contract 2007-2008, seconded by Hernandez.  Motion carried 3-0.

 

Melton stated that the Workers Comp Insurance went up $25,000.00.  Hernandez moved to approve the OK School Assurance Group Contract for Workers Comp Insurance 2007-2008, seconded by Dain.  Motion carried 3-0.

 

Dain moved to approve the Alcohol and Drug Testing Inc. Contract for Testing of Bus Drivers 2007-2008, seconded by Hernandez.  Motion carried 3-0.

 

Dain moved to adjourn to Executive Session, seconded by Hernandez.  Motion carried 3-0.  Board went into Executive Session at 7:35.  Dain made a motion to return from Executive Session to Regular Session at 8:00, seconded by Hernandez.  Motion carried 3-0.  Parkhurst explained the reason for the Executive Session was to discuss resignations, hiring of certified personnel, non-certified personnel, student related actions, other personnel actions, attorney-client information and consultation, and/or issues related to security and acts of terrorism for the 2006-2007 and 2007-2008 school years.   Those present were Doug Melton, Superintendent; Mitzi Dain, Scot Dahl, Elvia Hernandez, Mike Parkhurst and Kenny Mason. 

 

Dain made a motion to hire Brandi Waldschmidt-JH Math; Adam Jinkins-Elem PE & Coaching; Dianne McElroy-1st grade NE; April Strickland-Special Ed Acd/NP; Shannon Talcott-3rd grade Acd;

Nicole Ramon-3rd grade Acd; Earl Mallard-4th grade Acd; Barbara Mallard-Special Ed Aide Carrier;

Andy Brown-Head Cross Country/Head 8th Girls BB; Jennifer Reynolds-Asst Cross Country(Pending passing of Care and Prevention of Athletic Injury class); Paul Stephens-Director of Transportation; Delydia Gay-JH PE & Head Girls Soccer & Asst JH Girls BB.  Transfers & Administrative Changes – Informational:  Diane Seabaugh-1st grade NE/ 3rd grade Acd; Cathy Henry-3rd grade HL/5th grade NP; Erika Martinez-4th grade Acd/ELL Teacher NP; Maribel Avalos-3rd grade Acd/HS Spanish. Resignations- Alva Hammond-JH Math (Retirement); Barbara Hammond-4th grade NP (Retirement); Pauline Vernon-Vocal NP (Retirement); LaRie Hillman-HS Math; Bill Ritter-Bus Driver, Kimberly Lamach-JH ELL Aide; Staci Bauer-Teacher Aide; Fred Benien-ISD Teacher; Kayla Martin-Cook, seconded by Hernandez.  Motion carried 3-0.

 

Under New Business, Melton presented the resignation of Tamn Harrington, Kyle Young and Andrea Puentes for acceptance.  Dain moved to accept the resignation of Tamn Harrington, Kyle Young and Andrea Puentes, seconded by Hernandez.  Motion carried 3-0.

 

Dain made a motion to adjourn and seconded by Hernandez.  Motion carried 3-0 and the meeting was adjourned at 8:03.
