The National Honor Society (NHS) was established in 1921 to acknowledge outstanding high school students. In order for a student to be eligible they must first have a certain cumulative GPA and then fill out a Student Activity Form, which focuses on leadership and service. The next step is for the faculty to fill out an evaluation form on the student. Five members of the Faculty Council then vote on which candidates should be accepted based on scholarship, leadership, service, and character qualities. Once a student is accepted they are notified and formally inducted in a ceremony.
Once a student is inducted into NHS they must uphold the standards that were used in the selection process. Students must also perform 10 hours of community work each year. NHS has it’s own constitution that define the rules and guidelines for the group. Noblese Oblige is the group’s motto and it means nobility obligates.
