This weekend the Tigers traveled to
Marlow, OK to the Class 4-A West Regional Cross Country Meet. The
top seven teams and top 7 individuals on non qualifying teams
would earn a trip to Edmond next week to run in the state meet.
The lady Tigers ran very well as a team
and came within four points of earning the number seven team spot,
but fell short as Douglass edged them out. We knew it would be
close with Douglass and we knew going into the race that if we
wanted to go to state we had to beat them. I thought it would be a
lot closer with Weatherford as well, but they had the number four
team spot after the results came out and Douglass was sitting in
the number seven spot.
Two of the Lady
Tigers earned a spot at the state meet and those two were
sophomores Shelby Hayes who finished 20th and Stefanie
Almeida who finished in 21 st place. The Lady
Tigers who ran in the regional meet were Cynthia Ochoa, Shayla
Bowers, Sydney Ritter and Samantha Villasenor. There were 75 total
runners in the girl's race. As a team we could not have done much
more to try to earn that number seven spot. All of the girls ran
their fastest times of the year; some even ran a minute faster.
They gave it all they had and were proud of that effort.
Going into the
boy's race we knew that Anadarko had some talented runners and we
wanted to finish ahead of them at the number three spot. After the
results were posted we saw that Anadarko beat us by thirteen
points as they had 109 and we ended up with 122 team points, so we
got the number four spot. There were eleven teams in the boy's
race and a total of 82 runners.
The Tigers were
led by Trevor Bowers and Josh Pierce as they finished in 14th
and 16th place. Nick Ramos has been running great all
year and placed 24th. Peter Corral and Joseph Ulibarri
rounded out the top 5 Tiger runners as they came in at 38th
and 40th place. Hiram Villa and Nick Vela also competed
for the Tigers as they were the sixth and seventh runners for the
team.
Next Saturday the
Tigers will run at the state meet in Edmond, OK at Mitch Park. The
girl's race will start at 10:00 a.m. and the boys will run at
10:45 a.m. The boys will be looking to earn a top 5 finish and the
girls will be looking to run their fastest times of the season and
break into the top 30.

results from both 4-A regionals can be found at
