Nick Vela |
|
|
Nick Vela is the 17-year-old son of Ramiro and Berta Vela
of Mercedes, Texas. He has four sisters, Savannah of Hardesty,
Oklahoma, Berta Jr., and Mickey of Guymon, and Mercedes of Mercedes
Texas. He also has three brothers, the late Ramiro Vela, Jr., Roman of
Guymon, and Martin Vela of Cordell, Oklahoma. He has three nieces and
nephews and three in-laws. His grandparents are the late Lorenzo P.
Vela from La Feria Texas and the late Irma Sepulveda from Mercedes
Texas and the late Eleazar Flores from Spain and Isabel Hernandez from
the Philippine Islands.
Nick is a senior at Guymon High School. He has been very active
throughout his high school career. He was a member of Business
Professionals of America his freshmen year. He also played the trumpet
in the Guymon High School Band his freshmen year. He was a member of
the Guymon Cross Country team his freshmen, sophomore, and junior
year. He was a Regional and State Qualifier for Cross Country his
sophomore and junior year. He has been a member of Student Council
since his sophomore year, and is currently the Student Council Vice
President. He was also a member of Varsity Choir his freshmen year and
has been a member of Take Note Show Choir since his sophomore year,
and is currently the Treasurer for Choir. He received a Superior
rating on his solo at contest and was a State Vocal Qualifier his
junior year in Choir! He was stage crew for the high school musical
production his freshmen, sophomore, and junior year, but his senior
year took the role of one of the Wickersham brothers for this year's
musical production of Seussical the Musical! Nick is also the
2009-2010 Tiger Mascot. He was also voted Most Spirited this year!
Nick works at The Hangout Daycare where he enjoys hanging out with all
of his daycare kids. In his free time he enjoys running, singing,
driving around town, and hanging out with his friends. His future
plans are to attend OSU in the fall, where he will major in Pre-Law
and Minor in Architecture or Business Management. Afterwards he hopes
to either go back to college to major in Criminal Justice or join the
police force to become a CSI Agent. He hopes to live in a big city
where he can be involved in CSI work and live his life with a
wonderful family! Nick would like to thank the Rotary club for this
prestigious honor he received.
