The Tigers traveled
to Perryton, TX for the annual Wolf Creek Classic and came away with
several great individual performances as well as a first place finish
in the JH boys division. The course is a very challenging course with
one gradual hill all the runners run at least once, varsity boys run
up the hill twice.
The first race of the
day featured the JH girls 2 mile. Again the Lady Tigers were paced by
Kaylum Labrue and Jahaira Marquez as they placed 35th and
36th. We were able to place 5 runners in the top 50. Cai
Barias, Isabella Flores, and Adriana Gonzalez rounded out the top 5,
as they came in at 41, 45, and 49th place respectively.
This race featured 134 runners. The Lady Tigers placed 7th
out of 14 teams in the race with a team average time of 16:42.
The JH boy’s race
consisted of 93 runners. The boys ran a great race and came away meet
champions, compiling a total of 69 team points to beat 9 other teams.
We placed 5 runners in the top 25. Cory Nunez continued his
dominating ways as he won the meet by 25 seconds, running a 12:05.
Levi Bowers was close behind in 7th place, as well as Baily
Homan, Gustavo Rios, and Dylan Beasley coming in at 17th,
23rd and 25th.
The Varsity girl’s
race had 138 runners and Stefanie Almeida and Kaitlynn Maddox were the
only two girls to run for the Lady Tigers in that race. Stefanie ran
the 2nd fastest time of her career (14:02) and placed 15th.
Kaitlynn ran a great time as well (15:29) placing in the middle of the
pack. There was no team score for the Lady Tigers as we only had two
runners competing.
The Varsity boy’s
race featured 85 runners. Josh Pierce led the way for the Tigers
earning a medal in 14th place (18:05) and Nick Ramos was
two places out from medaling in 22nd (18:35). Josh and
Nick have been having a great season so far and are already running
faster than they ran at the state meet last year, so they are on the
right track. The next 3 finishers for the Tigers were; Fabian
Martinez (20:25), Ignacio Gamboa (20:55), and Juan Mendoza (21:33).
The boy’s team placed ahead of five other teams for a 6th
place finish. The team average was a 19:55. At this point we are 20
seconds slower than we were last year as a team heading out of this
meet so we’ve got some catching up to do next week. |
