Guymon’s Trey Fankhouser works with his stroke
during a recent practice session at Sunset Hills Golf Course.
Fankhouser posted a score of 91, Guymon’s low round, at the
Perryton (Texas) Invitational on Saturday.
PERRYTON, Texas — The Guymon High School boys
golf team finished in the middle of the pack of teams at the
Perryton Invitational Saturday.
The meet took place at the Perryton Municipal
Golf Course.
Trey Fankhouser produced Guymon’s low round with
a 91, including a back-nine 45. Dakota Wilson shot a 93,
including a strong 44 on the back nine.
Caleb McMurry posted a 94. As did Trever Lutz,
whose score was a season best. Josh Edenborough rounded out the
Tiger scores with a 98.
Guymon also brought a ‘B’ team with Landon Hyer
carding the lowest score with a 94. Chad Huckins and Andrew
McCulloch both fired 98s. McCulloch’s score was a season-best.
Ethan Novak scored a 106, rounding out the scores.
Perryton defended its home course, putting
together a 326.
All the golfers had to battle 25- to
30-mile-per-hour northwesterly winds and chilly conditions.
“I’m not happy with what we are doing,” Guymon
coach Jerry Cooper said. “We have score 10-15 strokes better per
person. It’s early in the season, though, and we can do better.”
Spearman’s Tyler Harper was the male meet
medalist with a 77.
Borger, Texas, won the girls’ meet with a score
392, which was 23 strokes better than Wellington, Texas.
Guymon brought only three golfers to the meet.
Jade Cruzan carded a 93, including a front-nine
45. Chelsea Montano posted a 106 and Cytorie Clark scored a 127
to complete the Tiger totals.
“Jade played a really good round for us, a good
front-nine for us,” Guymon coach Jerry Hill said. She kept her
numbers low and had a solid day.”
Wellington’s Carly Holland was the meet medalist
with an 82.
Safe to say, this will be a busy week for Tiger
golfers.
Guymon’s boys and girls golfers will play today
at Boise City. The boys will follow that with the Woodward
Invitational on Tuesday at Boiling Springs.
Wednesday, the girls are at Lake Hefner Golf
Course in Oklahoma City to participate in the Putnam City
Invitational. Thursday, the girls will play in the Woodward
Invitational at Boiling Springs and the boys will be at Liberal,
Kan.
Saturday, the girls’ team will travel for a
tournament at Laverne and the boys will travel to the Garden
City Invitational, which is scheduled to take place at Southwind
Country Club.
Girls soccer earns regulation tie
CHICKASHA — The Guymon girls’ soccer team earned
its first tie of the season on Saturday at the 5th annual
Chickasha Tournament.
The Tigers lost in the opening round to
Chickasha, 5-0, and followed that with a tie against Oklahoma
Christian 1-all and Putnam City 2-1.
In the game versus Oklahoma Christian, Guymon
lost the shootout by a score of 4-1.
The Guymon girls are now 0-5-1 heading into
Tuesday’s game against Woodward. This varsity-junior varsity
doubleheader was recently added to the schedule.
Varsity will play at 3:30 p.m. and junior varsity
at 5:30 p.m. at Boomers Stadium.
Here’s a small recap on each game:
Veronica Lozano posted three shots on goal in
this contest.
Jill Brooks and Tessica Starkey shared
goalkeeping duties for Guymon in the game.
Oklahoma Christian 1, Guymon 1
(OCS wins in shootout, 4-1)
Lozano scored Guymon’s only goal in the shootout
while OCS put four in the goal.
In regulation, Karina Villalobos scored an
unassisted goal, dribbling for 10 yards and blasting the ball
into the net.
Starkey made eight saves in net. The Tigers
recorded double-digit shots and had two corner kicks.
Villalobos and Cecilia Gamboa missed scoring
chances in the shootout for the Tigers.
Lozano scored an unassisted goal and Starkey made
eight more saves, and it nearly was enough as the Tigers stayed
competitive with Putnam City.
Guymon coach Delydia Gay said she’s seeing the
Tigers make progress as a team.
“We’re starting to make good passes to each other
and the players are making good cuts to get to the goal,” Gay
said. “I am proud of the way we played this weekend.”
Boys soccer results are unavailable from the
weekend.
Dalhart bounces Guymon baseball in five innings
DALHART, Texas — The Guymon High School baseball
team suffered a 14-4 loss on the road on Saturday to
homestanding Dalhart.
Landon Huckins took the loss against the Golden
Wolves, who raced to a 9-0 lead at the end of three innings.
Guymon’s varsity has lost three of its last four
games (6-4) heading into Tuesday’s game on the road at Perryton,
Texas. The Tigers will then play in the Route 66 Invitational.
Despite losing the game, there were some
highlights for Guymon.
Kaleb Caudell slugged his first home run of the
season in the third inning. Matthew Burkett smacked an RBI
double in the first inning, scoring Huckins. The Tigers added
more runs in the fifth inning on a two-run single from Randy
Costilla.
That cut Dalhart’s lead to 9-4, however the
Golden Wolves scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth to
invoke the mercy rule.

GHS makes schedule changes
Guymon High School athletic director Dan Turner
has announced some changes and/or additions to the schedules of
various spring sports.
The Guymon girls’ soccer team will play at
Woodward tomorrow.
The varsity game will take place at 3:30 p.m. at
Boomers Stadium, followed by a junior varsity contest at 5:30
p.m.
Guymon has added this game to its schedule
because two district opponents aren’t able to field a girls’
team and that left some open dates.
On Tuesday, April 15, the Guymon baseball team
will play Woodward in one varsity seven-inning and one varsity
five-inning game at Asa Howard Field here in the city.
At the same time, the Tiger junior varsity will
play two five-inning games at Woodward.
On Friday, April 18, the situation will be
reversed. The Tigers junior varsity will play two five-inning
games at Howard Field while the varsity plays two games in
Woodward.
This is to make up for, in part, a junior varsity
doubleheader that was originally scheduled for Friday, March 14.
The games were scrapped at that point on account of bad weather.
