GHS powerlifting nabs second place
TURPIN — The Guymon High School powerlifting team finished
second at the Turpin Invitational last week.

Guymon accumulated 52 points, which was 38 points
behind the winners from Liberal, Kan.
Hooker was third with 40 points, Texhoma fourth
with 34 and Turpin sixth with 26.
Junior Rubio won the heavyweight class, recording
a combined lift of 1,035 pounds with the squat, bench press and
deadlift. Rubio’s deadlift was 405 pounds.
Jordan Fajen captured top honors in the 242-pound
class with a total lift of 1,050 pounds, finishing ahead of
second-place Bryer Smith from Texhoma.
In the 220-pound class, Breck Burkhart was the
gold standard with a combined lift of 1,095 pounds, including a
435-pound deadlift and 255-pound bench press.
Nick Marler placed second in the 275-pound class
with a combined lift of 1,245 pounds, including a 500-pound
squat. Dane Weippert earned second in the 198-pound class, with
a total lift of 1,155 pounds, including a 485-pound deadlift.
Texhoma’s Cruz Holguin was third in the 168-pound
class.
Turpin dominated the 145-pound class with Polito
Castillo, Douglas Stern and Clinton Horton finishing second
through fourth in the division. Polito lifted a combined 820
pounds.
Hooker’s best powerlifters were in the 123- and
132-pound classes, respectively, as Tim Stovall and James
Pollock both claimed gold medals. Stovall lifted 680 pounds,
including a 305-pound deadlift.
Guymon will be playing host to a powerlifting
meet in Tigertown Gymnasium on Friday, with the competition set
to start at 9 a.m.
