Empowering Young Readers at Homer Long
Guymon, OK - September 23, 2026 - Homer Long Elementary students and teachers are embracing the district’s new literacy program, Empower Hour, and the excitement for learning can be heard throughout the halls!
Each day, students are building the foundational skills they need to become strong, confident readers. Classrooms are filled with students practicing letters and letter sounds, speaking and making sentences, and actively engaging in literacy activities.
Students are also learning how sentences work by reciting the sentence jingle, identifying subjects and predicates, and even “body mapping” sentences to help them understand how words and spaces come together when writing on paper.
Teachers and students alike are enjoying Empower Hour, and students are already showing tremendous growth in their literacy skills this school year.
We are proud of the hard work happening at Homer Long and can’t wait to see how much our young readers continue to grow!
